GimpCam and NetCam

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about GimpCam and NetCam recently. To save me feeling like a broken record, here’s a selection of pre-prepared answers …

  • Yes I did look like a gimp while wearing it
  • No I’m not going to lend it to you to wear to school
  • No it doesn’t have X-ray vision
  • No I don’t use it to spy on girls in the changing room
  • No I’m not going to lend it to you for that purpose!
  • No I’m not going to buy a pinhole camera instead (too expensive)
  • Yes GimpCam and NetCam have the same internals
  • It cost $80 from a dodgy computer store in SE Calgary
  • Yes NetCam is housed inside a tupperware container and no I’m not going to integrate it inside the goal post instead
  • Yes GimpCam looks stupid and no it can’t fit inside the lip at the top of my helmet
  • Yes I am considering allowing goalies to wear GimpCam but I need to find an appropriate way to protect it as its unlikely to survive a puck impact in it’s current form
  • No I’m not planning to stream it direct to a projector screen in the warm room
  • Last of all, NO! You are not allowed to fire slapshots at my head while I’m wearing GimpCam!

Remarkables

Here’s a panoramic photo I took of the Remarkables from the Queenstown ice rink.

Penguin

I was dressed in a Yellow Eyed Penguin suit as the mascot for the World Friendship Ice Hockey Games. There were teams from USA, Canada, Australia, Korea and New Zealand. The suit was ridiculously hot inside and skating became more of a sliding waddle :P The kids seemed to enjoy it though and none of them kicked me in the balls :) I wore a cup just in case though :)

The games were actually in May this year, but I didn’t get these photos till just now. Thanks for the photos Daria :)

Photos of Dunedin

Some photos I took (well apart from the one of myself) of Dunedin recently.

Jenel Bode comes to Dunedin!

Woot! Got a lift back to Dunedin from Christchurch with my old hockey coach Jenel Bode who I’m hoping will take a job with the Dunedin Ice Hockey Association as a professional hockey coach/skating instructor. We stopped off at the Moeraki boulders on the way.

Hastings Caves

Vicky Argyle, Tasha Munro, Lisa McClintock and I all ventured south from Hobart to visit the Hastings Caves. The caves are truly spectacular and you can get some wonderful pictures inside. There’s a sign outside saying you aren’t allowed to use a tripod, but the guide told me it was okay as long as I didn’t hold the tour up :) There were all sorts of creepy crawlies inside, although getting pictures of them was difficult as I wasn’t allowed to use a flash and they usually moved before I could get my tripod setup.

Below is what the Hastings Caves look like if yer spinning round in circles - I dropped my camera :P

The bush outside the caves was very dense and full of wildlife including Wallabies, possums and the occasional Tasha and Lisa.

Catlins with Andy and Jon

Jon and I took our new Research Fellow down to the Catlins for some site seeing.

The weather was good so I headed out to Lake Waihola (about 25 mins from Dunedin) and took some snaps.

Catlins trip with Anna

Anna and I headed down to the Catlins only a few days after we both arrived back in New Zealand. The scenery was great and the lighting was perfect for some decent photography.
