Lesson in life … don't run a highly intensive cron job that takes 30 mins to process, once per minute; tends to cause server meltdown!

@TCBarrett Much less exciting. Complete contents of http://ryanhellyer.net.

Filed a ticket with VPS host @linode. Any guesses as to the response time? Options are (a) 3 hours, (b) 30 mins, (c) 3 mins, (d) 30 seconds.

I apparently managed to serve 17 GB of data off a 512 MB RAM VPS within the past hour and a bit. Not too shabby I think

Hmm, so it seems that sync'ing your entire server to Amazon S3 all in one hit is a very very bad idea. All system RAM was used for syncing!

Take #2 … a more detailed description of my pull-CDN problem … http://wordpress.org/support/topic/domain-mapping-and-pull-cdns

@davecoveney Thanks, I'll re tweet it in a second once I track down the correct URL.

Domain mapping, pull CDN … how do I stop the pull CDN from caching a redirected file? eg: http://d3e29dgja1i1wj.cloudfront.net/ryanhellyer/files/2012/07/mike-ryan-1-626×680.jpg

I'm working on an importer, processing 58,000 members for inclusion into a WordPress install.

@billrobbins I wish that plugin was available a few years ago. I ended up manually copying a bunch over and left some to die.

@rmccue I need to learn more about WP_Error. I have a bad habit of littering my code with custom error messages minus the API.

RT @Namecheap: @ryanhellyer And by the way, http://ow.ly/crA37 - and we matched $10k on top of that!

@loyals In case it wasn't obvious, my last few tweets were sarcasm. GoDaddy sucks balls. @namecheap rules.

@Namecheap Next you will be trying to say you don't kill baby elephants for fun.

@andrea_r Three screens? What the hell? I paid US$10 for that domain! I expect my money's worth in screens!

Something is fishy. @namecheap aren't even trying to trick me into accidentally clicking on stuff to buy. Something is not right.

Where are all the advertisements featuring scantily clad women? And why are they not forcing me to scread through tons of irrelevant crap?

I've been a GoDaddy user for a while now and am trying out NameCheap this evening. Something is wrong though …

@SomertonDentist That code won't be viable for production use for at least a few months though sorry

@SomertonDentist I'm working on a fork of the core code-base which will hopefully fix the problem you are experiencing though.

RT @XanaduHowTo: Happy birthday @ryanhellyer! Thx for changing out of the wordpress tshirt for the occasion! http://instagr.am/p/NboOK6P6b7/

@DeFries Are there any advanced-cache.php or object-cache.php drop-in files being used at all?

@BillErickson Pfft, 1.1 GB is nothing It's when it hits 10 GB it becomes annoying!

@DeFries Sounds awesome. I'm cynical that some sort of object cache wouldn't be helpful but would love to be proven wrong

@DeFries Are you sure it wouldn't run faster with a caching plugin? Reducing DB queries would presumably help somewhat.

@DeFries I'd love to try making a site run purely off of Amazon Cloudfront. It'd run ninja fast then, albeit would be totally static.

@DeFries I've grown a strong dislike of bloated plugins. Batcache and APC Object Cache have become two of my new favourites.

@DeFries Had you ever seen that WP stack thing before? I'm surprised I haven't noticed it until now.

I feel bad for gasbagging instead of going to WC Edinburgh presentations now. A plugin of mine was demo'd during it and I didn't know!

@nakrissimo The talk we met each other at is what prompted me to upgrade. My site was an embarrassing demonstration of site performance.

@Otto42 @trepmal I rely on them because I use Google to hunt out bits of core code I need to access.

As of today, my website is slightly less disarray than it was. Lots of bugs and issues to fix, but the big one (server change) is done

Jeepers. Decided to guinea pig alpha theme code on my own site. Didn't go so well, lol. Had to urgently hack in (badly) archive pages.

Oh noes! Half my links are broken http://ryanhellyer.net/2007/ Any ideas on what might cause that?

@chris_olbekson I changed back to the original server_name and seems to be working fine. Is there any particular reason you removed the _?

@chris_olbekson Can I do it with a wildcard for the domain? I'd rather be able to add domains willy nilly without editing the config file.

@chris_olbekson I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff, so help is very appreciated

@dinicmilan Transients default to using the DB when object caching is unavailable. That can slow things down if you need to cache too often.

@dinicmilan @Otto42 That is not true. Sometimes non-object caching is too slow. Don't wanna fry your DB in the process of caching.

@ryancduff I was watching that with @ronalfy on TV earlier and laughed at it. Didn't realise the WP logo until @xanaduhowto pointed it out.

@chris_olbekson Thanks! Will hunt it out and tweet back in a few minutes. Gotta find SSH details first.

I'm having trouble debugging image uploads on my fresh WordPress install. Any help appreciated http://wordpress.org/support/topic/images-not-loading-with-domain-mapping

@bradleypotter I had a plan a while back to build a tool for testing plugins and themes live. Never got around to building it though.

@Otto42 Do you have an opinion on the best static page caching plugin to use? I've been playing with Batcache/APC lately which seems okay.

@Otto42 Yep, got that from your talk. It seems I should be using transients more often than I have been … oops!

@Krogsgard Good slides here too http://www.ethitter.com/slides/wcmia-caching-scaling-2012-02-18/#slide-0 by @ethitter
